How Retool seat pricing adds up
Retool’s page defines a builder as a user who created or edited an app or workflow in the billing cycle, billed per builder a month. That rule shapes the bill in three ways:
- Editing makes you a builder. An ops lead who tweaks one query in a month is billed as a builder for that month, at five times the internal-user rate on Team and more than three times on Business.
- Customers cost extra and need Business. External users are not included on Free or Team. On Business the first 50 are free, then US$8 a month each for users 51 to 250, US$6 for 251 to 500 and US$4 above 500.
- Automation is metered. Team includes 5,000 workflow runs a month, with extra runs at US$75 per 5,000. A job that runs every five minutes uses about 8,640 runs a month on its own.
Retool also states that a self-hosted deployment with external-user pricing needs a custom annual plan. Budget for that conversation if your security team wants the platform inside your own cloud.
Where Retool stops being enough in the UAE
Retool is strong for internal tools on data you already hold. Gaps show up around identity, ownership and customer-facing work.
SSO and audit for regulated teams
The pricing page lists SSO with Okta, Active Directory or other SAML and OpenID providers, plus SCIM and 2FA, as Enterprise features. Audit logs start on Business. Banks, healthcare groups and free-zone firms under audit often need all of these, which puts them on a custom-priced plan.
PDPL and where data lives
Retool says queries run against your own data sources and that it does not store your data, and it offers self-hosting. That helps with the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), but you still need to record where the app runs, who can see personal data and how access is logged. Arabic and right-to-left
The pricing page does not mention Arabic or right-to-left layouts. For an English-only back office that rarely matters. For staff or customers who work in Arabic, test mirrored layouts, Arabic fonts and mixed-direction forms before you commit.
