Product Label and Sticker Printing Cost in Dubai (2026): Real AED Prices and the Arabic Sticker Rule That Gets Shipments Rejected

Short answer: product label and sticker printing in Dubai costs AED 0.10–1.00 per label in 2026 — roughly AED 370 for 1,000 glossy laminated paper labels (37 fils each) falling to about AED 950 for 10,000 (around 10 fils each), with clear PVC and foiled stock at AED 575–690 per 500–1,000. Add AED 300–800 one-off setup for plates, dies and proofing, AED 500–1,500 for artwork, and AED 110–240 per product for Dubai Municipality registration through Montaji. Standard production is 2–4 working days.

Here is what most Dubai businesses get wrong: they treat the label as a printing line item and the compliance as paperwork that follows. In the UAE it is the other way round. An Arabic overlay sticker that carries a production or expiry date is not acceptable under UAE labelling standards, and a sticker applied after the goods land in Jebel Ali is already too late. The cheap label is the one that clears customs on the first attempt.

Key takeaways

  • Per-unit price collapses with volume. 1,000 laminated paper labels run about 37 fils each; 10,000 of a standard round size run about 10 fils — roughly a 73% cut per label for the same artwork.
  • Arabic is mandatory, not optional. Under GSO 9:2022 (adopted nationally as UAE.S GSO 9) mandatory label information must appear in Arabic; English may sit alongside it, and where the two disagree the Arabic text prevails.
  • Stickers cannot carry dates. Production and expiry dates must be printed, stamped, embossed or engraved on the original label or primary pack in indelible ink. Dates on a stuck-on label are rejected.
  • Registration is cheap but slow. Montaji / FIRS product registration costs only AED 110–240 per product, but takes 2–4 weeks — which is the real cost when artwork fails review.
  • 1 January 2026 changed the substrate question. Phase two of Ministerial Decision No. 380 of 2022 banned a wider range of single-use plastics and all single-use bags under 50 microns, pushing brands onto paper and PLA packs that print differently.

Why label spend is rising faster than print volume in the UAE

The numbers behind this are not small. The UAE packaging market is estimated at USD 10.8 billion in 2025, moving to USD 11.38 billion in 2026 and forecast to reach USD 14.75 billion by 2031 at a 5.34% CAGR. Packaging printing specifically is worth about USD 1.5 billion in 2025, growing at 6.85% a year to roughly USD 2.3 billion by 2031 — printing is growing faster than the packs it decorates, because every pack now carries more regulated content than it did five years ago.

Two 2025–2026 rule changes explain most of that. First, front-of-pack nutrition grading: Nutri-Mark, developed with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, became mandatory from 1 June 2025 for an initial five categories — oils, dairy, beverages, baked goods and children's foods — grading products A to E on a colour scale. Products found on shelf without it, or displaying a better grade than they qualify for, are withdrawn and the responsible party fined. Second, from 1 January 2026, phase two of Ministerial Decision No. 380 of 2022 prohibited the import, manufacture and trade of single-use cups and lids, cutlery, plates, straws, stirrers and Styrofoam food containers, plus every single-use bag thinner than 50 microns regardless of material — paper included. Plant-based PLA is accepted as an alternative.

Both changes force artwork revisions. A revision is a new print run, a new registration record, and often a new substrate.

What label and sticker printing actually costs in Dubai in 2026

Dubai label pricing is driven by four things in this order: quantity, material, finish, and whether your shape needs a new die. Published 2026 rates from Dubai printers give a usable benchmark before you request a quote.

Label / sticker typeQuantityPrice (AED)Per unit
Basic paper sticker, 7cmfrom 100270—

Clear PVC round, 6cm1,00069069 fils
PVC 3x3cm with gold or silver foiling500575~1.15
Transparent round, 10cm100375~3.75

On top of the run: AED 300–800 covers plates, calibration and proofing on a setup-charged job, and a non-standard shape adds its own cutting and die cost. Standard sizes your printer already holds a die for avoid that entirely. Professional artwork sits around AED 500–1,500 depending on panels and revision rounds. Typical turnaround is 2–4 working days, and several Dubai printers deliver free within the emirate above about AED 800.

The volume maths most brands skip

Look again at the table. The same round paper label costs 62 fils at 1,000 units and about 10 fils at 10,000. If you sell 500 units a month, buying 12 months of labels in one run saves roughly AED 3,100 per SKU against ordering monthly — but only if the artwork is final and compliant. Order a year of labels against artwork that fails Montaji review and you have bought a year of waste. Sequence matters: approve, then print at volume.

Material choice after the 2026 plastic rules

If your pack moved to paper, kraft or PLA to stay inside the January 2026 rules, the label follows. Uncoated and kraft stocks absorb ink differently, cold-chain and frozen lines need adhesives rated for condensation, and cosmetics and oud lines usually need clear PVC or foil to hold a premium look — which is why the clear and foiled rows above cost two to six times the plain paper rows. Decide substrate before artwork, not after.

The compliance layer: Montaji, FIRS and the Arabic sticker trap

Packaged food, beverages, cosmetics, personal care, supplements and detergents sold in Dubai need product registration through Montaji (with food imports also routed through the Food Import and Re-export System, FIRS) before they reach a shelf. You need a trade licence carrying the relevant activity, full ingredient and nutrition breakdown, and bilingual Arabic/English label artwork.

Official fees are modest: around AED 10 per application and about AED 220 for the approval certificate per product, inclusive of the AED 10 knowledge and AED 10 innovation fees — a total of roughly AED 110–240 per product. The timeline is the expensive part: 2–4 weeks for a complete file.

Now the part that quietly kills consignments. An Arabic sticker over a foreign-language label is permitted, but under the UAE labelling standard it must:

  • Not obscure any information the standard requires.
  • Not contradict anything on the original label.
  • Not carry production or expiry dates — those must be printed, stamped, embossed or engraved on the original label or primary packaging in indelible ink.
  • Not peel off easily once applied.
  • Be submitted and approved as part of label assessment before use.
  • Be applied before export — stickering imported goods on arrival in the UAE is not accepted.

That last pair is the one importers learn the hard way. Date formats are regulated too: a single set of dates only, day/month/year for products with a shelf life of three months or less, and day/month/year or month/year above that. Only one set — two conflicting date stamps is a rejection.

How to brief a Dubai label job so it prints once

1. Lock the regulated content first

Product name, net content in metric units, full ingredient list in descending order, allergens, additives with their function, nutrition panel per UAE.S GSO 2233, storage conditions, country of origin, and the name and address of the manufacturer, importer or distributor — all in Arabic, English alongside if you want it. Nutri-Mark grade too, if you sit in one of the five mandated categories.

2. Decide where dates get applied

If your co-packer cannot print dates on the primary pack, that is a production problem, not a design problem, and it has to be solved before the run. Thermal-transfer coding on-line or pre-printed date windows filled by the filler are both acceptable; a date sticker is not.

3. Print a real proof on the real stock

A screen proof will not tell you whether 6pt Arabic holds legibility on kraft at speed, or whether your brand red shifts on clear PVC. Ask for a physical proof on production substrate. It is the cheapest insurance in the whole chain.

4. Keep artwork versioned and barcode-linked

One artwork file per SKU per market, version-numbered, with the registration reference in the filename. When a rule changes — and in 2025–2026 two did — you want to know in a minute which of your 60 SKUs are affected. If you are managing more than about 30 SKUs, this belongs in a system rather than a shared drive; our note on food safety and HACCP compliance software in Dubai covers how that is usually built.

Budgets that hold: what to put in the plan

For a Dubai brand launching or relabelling, these are realistic 2026 envelopes.

ScenarioScopeBudget (AED)
Single SKU launchArtwork, Montaji registration, 1,000 laminated labels, physical proof1,200–2,600
Small range, 5 SKUsArtwork system, 5 registrations, 5,000–10,000 labels, setup and dies6,000–14,000
Premium cosmetics or oud lineClear PVC or foiled stock, custom die, 3 SKUs at 1,000 each4,500–9,000
Compliance relabel, 20 SKUsArabic and Nutri-Mark revisions, re-registration, reprints at 5,000 each22,000–45,000

Compare that to the downside. A rejected label means re-artwork, a fresh 2–4 week registration cycle, relabelling that legally has to happen before export, and storage on goods that cannot be sold meanwhile. The registration fee is AED 220; the delay is what costs money. Printing is 10 fils a label. Getting it wrong is weeks.

How Aquarius handles it

We sit on the production side of this: brand, artwork and print under one roof in Dubai, which means the person drawing the Arabic panel is talking to the person running the press and the person preparing the registration file. We build the artwork to the regulated field list, produce a physical proof on your production substrate, keep a versioned master per SKU, and quote the run at volume breaks so you can see the 62-fils-versus-10-fils decision before you commit. If your range also needs packaging, our guide to custom packaging and box printing costs in Dubai runs the same maths one layer out, and flyer and business card printing costs covers the collateral around a launch. Pricing for bundled brand and print work is on our pricing page.

FAQ

How much does it cost to print 1,000 product labels in Dubai?

Budget AED 370–690 for 1,000, depending on material: about AED 370 for glossy laminated paper, AED 610–690 for clear PVC, AED 625 for a 6cm round paper label. Add AED 300–800 if the job needs new plates or a custom die.

Do product labels in Dubai have to be in Arabic?

Yes. Mandatory label information must appear in Arabic under GSO 9:2022, adopted nationally as UAE.S GSO 9. English or another language may appear alongside it but cannot replace it, and if the two versions disagree the Arabic text takes precedence.

Can I put an Arabic sticker on an imported product instead of reprinting?

Usually yes, within limits. The sticker must be pre-approved during label assessment, must not obscure or contradict required information, must not be easily removable, must not carry production or expiry dates, and must be applied before export — not after the goods arrive in the UAE.

What does Dubai Municipality product registration cost?

Around AED 110–240 per product through Montaji — roughly AED 10 per application and about AED 220 for the approval certificate, including the AED 10 knowledge and AED 10 innovation fees. Allow 2–4 weeks for a complete submission.

Does Nutri-Mark apply to my product?

The mandatory first phase from 1 June 2025 covers five categories — oils, dairy, beverages, baked goods and children's foods — with an A to E colour-coded grade front of pack. Other categories are currently voluntary. Products on shelf without a required Nutri-Mark, or showing a better grade than they qualify for, are withdrawn and fined.

How long does label printing take in Dubai?

Standard production is 2–4 working days after artwork approval, longer for custom dies, foiling or large volumes. The regulatory clock is the long pole: plan the 2–4 week registration review before you book press time.
