GITEX GLOBAL 2026 Moves to Expo City (7-11 Dec): The Dubai Exhibitor Digital Checklist and Real AED Costs

Short answer: GITEX GLOBAL 2026 runs 7–11 December 2026 at Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City Dubai — a new venue and a new month after 45 years at Dubai World Trade Centre. For exhibitors that means the digital half of your stand (pre-show landing page, badge-scan-to-CRM follow-up, a demo that survives a loud show floor, and a bilingual post-show sequence) has to be live by late November, not the week of the show. Budget AED 45,000–120,000 for a complete show-ready digital stack — roughly 10–25% of what a mid-size custom stand costs, and the part that decides whether the stand paid for itself.

Key takeaways

  • The venue and the date both moved. Under directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, GITEX relocates to Expo City Dubai for 7–11 December 2026 — a one-day GITEX Summit on 7 December, then the expo floor from 8 to 11 December. The Dubai Exhibition Centre site is a purpose-built venue reported at around USD 2.7 billion and roughly 1.5 times the size of DWTC.
  • The 2025 benchmark you are planning against. The 45th edition drew 6,800+ exhibitors, 200,000+ visitors from 180+ countries, 2,000 startups, and 1,200 investors holding a combined USD 1.1 trillion in assets under management, plus 40+ unicorns.
  • Show weeks move real money in Dubai. DWTC's 108 large-scale events in 2025 generated a record AED 25.03 billion in economic output (+12% year on year) and AED 14.66 billion in gross value added, from 2.18 million attendees. Nearly 947,000 came from overseas, spending an average of over AED 9,900 per event across a 5.6-day stay.
  • Follow-up, not footfall, is where exhibitors lose. Industry research finds fewer than 70% of exhibitors have any formalised plan for following up show leads, and only 47% track leads through the sales cycle. Harvard Business Review's analysis of 2.24 million leads found firms that made contact within an hour were nearly 7x more likely to qualify a lead — and those that waited 24 hours or more were 60x less likely.
  • Most Dubai exhibitors get this wrong in exactly one way. They spend six figures on plywood, lighting and a hostess team, then nothing on the 72 hours after the badge scan. The stand buys you attention. Only the follow-up system converts it.

What actually changed for GITEX 2026

GITEX has been tied to Dubai World Trade Centre since it launched as the Gulf Computer Exhibition in December 1981. The 2026 edition breaks that: the show moves to Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City Dubai and shifts from its traditional October slot to 7–11 December. Dubai Media Office framed the move as part of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), the ten-year plan to double the emirate's economy and keep Dubai inside the world's top three urban economies. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed also directed organisers to build a citywide TechCation programme around the show week.

Three practical consequences for anyone exhibiting:

  • Your production calendar slips by eight weeks. If your internal rhythm was "brief the agency in August, launch in October," that now reads September to late November — straight through the UAE's year-end budget crunch, National Day week and school holidays. Studios and stand builders will be fully booked in November.
  • Bigger floor, longer walks, colder leads. Reports put Expo City's exhibition footprint at roughly 340,000 sqm versus about 226,000 sqm at DWTC, with GITEX planning around 185,000 sqm of occupied space and 6,500+ exhibitors. A visitor who walks past you at 15:40 on day three will not remember your product name by the time they are in the taxi. A pre-booked meeting will.
  • December closes the financial year for most GCC buyers. That is good for budget-holders with unspent allocation and bad for anyone whose follow-up sequence starts in January. The window between the scan and the signature is shorter than it was in October.

What GITEX week is actually worth

The reason a stand at Dubai Exhibition Centre can justify a six-figure spend is not the number of badges that pass it — it is who travels in. In 2025, 947,000 of DWTC's 2.18 million large-event attendees arrived from overseas and spent an average of more than AED 9,900 per event over a 5.6-day stay. Direct spend across adjacent sectors hit AED 13.48 billion, and the MICE ecosystem alone booked AED 4.5 billion in sales value from organiser and exhibitor investment in space, stand services, logistics and related services. DWTC calculates that every AED 1 spent at one of its events produced AED 5.5 in total output citywide, supporting 94,000+ jobs.

That multiplier is a city-level figure, not a promise about your stand. It does tell you something useful, though: the money in a Dubai show week sits in the logistics, meetings and procurement decisions around the floor — and those are captured in a CRM, not on a clipboard.

The exhibitor digital checklist

Phase 1 — before the show (September to late November)

  • A campaign landing page, not your homepage. One page, one offer ("book a 20-minute demo at stand X"), bilingual EN/AR, with a form short enough to finish on a phone. Google's own research puts mobile abandonment sharply higher past a three-second load, so this page needs to be fast, not decorative. See our Dubai landing page cost guide for what drives the price.
  • A meeting-booking flow with reminders. Calendar integration, automatic WhatsApp or email reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before, and an easy reschedule link. Pre-booked meetings are the only lead type that is immune to a 340,000 sqm floor plan.
  • Tracking that survives the show. UTM discipline on every invitation, a separate campaign for the show, and server-side tagging if your analytics already leaks. Otherwise your December spike will all land in "direct / none" and you will be guessing in January.

Phase 2 — on the floor (8 to 11 December)

  • Badge scan piped straight into your CRM. The official lead-retrieval app gives you a record. It does not qualify, route or reply. One integration turns a scan into an owned record with a source, an owner and a next action.
  • An instant, human-sounding first touch. An automated WhatsApp or email inside five minutes of the scan — the deck, the pricing range, and a link to book 15 minutes. That is the single highest-return item on this list, for reasons the next section makes very clear.
  • A demo that does not need the venue Wi-Fi. Touchscreen or tablet, kiosk-locked, offline-safe, resettable in one tap between visitors. Hall Wi-Fi at a 200,000-visitor show is not a dependency you want in your sales pitch. An AI booth assistant trained on your product handles the queue when all three of your staff are busy, in Arabic and English.

Phase 3 — the week after

  • Segmented nurture, not one blast. Three sequences minimum: booked-and-met, scanned-and-interested, scanned-and-cold. Different offers, different cadence.
  • One attribution dashboard. Leads by day and by source, meetings held, pipeline value, cost per qualified lead. Built before the show, so it fills itself during it.

The 72-hour window most stands lose

You will hear someone at GITEX repeat that "80% of trade show leads are never followed up." Treat that number with suspicion: CEIR and other exhibition research bodies have publicly disavowed it, and no study of theirs supports it. The verified picture is bad enough without it. Research circulated by CEIR found fewer than 70% of exhibitors have any formalised follow-up plan at all, and only 47% track show leads through the sales cycle. In other words: most exhibitors cannot tell you what their stand earned, because nobody is holding the other end of the wire.

Speed is the part with the hardest evidence behind it. Harvard Business Review's study of 2.24 million sales leads found that companies attempting contact within an hour were nearly 7x more likely to qualify the lead than those that waited just 60 minutes longer, and 60x more likely than those that waited a day or more. Widely cited lead-response benchmarks put a five-minute reply at around 21x the effectiveness of a 30-minute one, against an average B2B response time still measured in dozens of hours.

Now apply that to a show floor. Your team scans a badge at 11:20 on 9 December. Your competitor three aisles away has an automation that sends the deck and a booking link at 11:24. You export a CSV on 14 December and start emailing on the 16th. You are not competing on product at that point — you already lost on arithmetic.

Three Dubai compliance details that catch exhibitors

  • A scanned badge is personal data. Under the UAE's PDPL (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) you need a lawful basis and a stated purpose at the point of collection, and you must honour access and deletion requests afterwards. "We scanned them at our stand" is not consent to an indefinite newsletter. Our PDPL compliance checklist covers the consent, retention and request-handling mechanics.
  • Bulk SMS and WhatsApp blasts are regulated. Unsolicited marketing to numbers collected at a stand runs into TDRA and Do-Not-Call rules, and WhatsApp's own template and opt-in policies. The compliant version — an opted-in, template-approved first message — is also the one that gets read. See the UAE messaging cost and compliance guide.
  • Paid amplification needs the Advertiser Permit. Since 1 February 2026, UAE enforcement of the Advertiser Permit regime (under Federal Decree-Law No. 55 of 2023) applies to paid promotion regardless of platform or follower count, with the permit costing roughly AED 370 per year and penalties running from AED 10,000 up to AED 1,000,000. If influencers or creators are amplifying your stand, confirm their permit status in writing before the show. Our Dubai YouTube ads cost guide explains how this lands on media plans.

What it costs against the stand, and the cost of getting it wrong

For context on the physical side: at DWTC, raw space has historically run around USD 600–900 per sqm with custom design and build adding USD 800–3,000 per sqm. Stand builders quoting for the new Expo City venue are advising a floor of roughly AED 2,500 per sqm for a credible presence, running 10–20% above equivalent DWTC builds. On those numbers a 36 sqm custom stand lands somewhere between AED 185,000 and AED 515,000 before flights, staff, hotels and shipping. Our Dubai exhibition stand cost breakdown goes deeper on the build side.

Here is the arithmetic that should decide your budget. Take an all-in stand cost of AED 250,000 and a good four days producing 400 scanned badges. That is AED 625 per lead. If you follow up properly, that is a competitive cost per lead for enterprise GCC buyers. If, like the majority of exhibitors without a formalised plan, you only ever work 30% of them, your true cost per worked lead is AED 2,083 — and the AED 20,000 automation you skipped would have cut it by two thirds. The digital stack is not a line item competing with the stand. It is the thing that sets the denominator.

How Aquarius ships a GITEX-ready stack

We build the pre-show page, the booking flow, the CRM pipe and the automated first touch as one four-to-six week block, so it is live and tested in November rather than being debugged in a hall at Expo City. Fixed scope, fixed price, source code and accounts in your name at handover, and a standby arrangement across the four show days so a broken form at 10:00 on 9 December is our problem, not your sales manager's. If the stack is not live and passing tests seven days before the show, you do not pay the final milestone.

Briefing in October is comfortable. November is a scramble. Tell us your stand number and target accounts and we will send the build plan and a fixed quote within two working days.

FAQ

When and where is GITEX GLOBAL 2026?

7–11 December 2026 at Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City Dubai. The GITEX Summit runs on 7 December, with the expo floor open 8–11 December. It is the first edition outside Dubai World Trade Centre in 45 years.

Why did GITEX move from October to December?

Dubai Media Office announced the move under directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with Expo City's larger purpose-built venue supporting growth and a citywide TechCation programme, aligned to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

What should an exhibitor have live before the doors open?

Four things: a fast bilingual campaign landing page, a meeting-booking flow with reminders, badge-scan data flowing into your CRM, and an automated first reply inside five minutes. Everything else — kiosk demos, AI assistants, apps — is upside on top of those four.

How much should the digital side cost relative to the stand?

Roughly 10–25%. A show-ready bundle runs AED 45,000–120,000 against a 36 sqm custom stand at AED 185,000–515,000. Spending 100% of the budget on the stand and 0% on follow-up is the most expensive choice on the menu.

Can we email everyone we scanned at the stand?

Not safely. Under the UAE PDPL you need a lawful basis and a disclosed purpose at collection, and bulk SMS or WhatsApp outreach additionally engages TDRA and Do-Not-Call rules. Capture an explicit opt-in at the scan — one checkbox on your own capture screen — and the problem disappears.

Is an event app worth it for an exhibitor?

Usually not. At AED 90,000–220,000 a full event app makes sense for organisers, pavilion hosts and country delegations managing agendas and matchmaking. A single exhibitor gets more from the same money spent on booking, automation and a demo that works offline.
